Carpet tile or broadloom in a ballroom
One has no grid to line up, the other can be replaced a square at a time. The room usually decides for you.
A ballroom is the one room where broadloom still wins arguments. Large patterns run without a seam grid, and the room is reset far less often than a corridor.
When tile makes more sense
If the room is split by partitions, used for dining as often as dancing, or likely to need a repair under a stage, tile can be replaced a square at a time without lifting the floor.
Look at how the room is actually used across a year, then choose.
